Chinese embroidery

For over 2000 years, Chinese embroidery has been a language of beauty, symbolism, and craftsmanship. The picture shows a group of fish in Shu embroidery.

Xiang SEW

And within this tradition, Xiang sew(湘绣) from Hunan stands out — known for its elegance, depth, and stunning realism.

Story

SEW

Xiang SEW(Embroidery), born in Hunan, China, dates back to the Han Dynasty. As one of the "Four Great Embroideries," its artisans stitch silk into life — turning nature and legends into timeless art with every thread.

Tiger – A symbol of power and courage.

Artists use “Peng Mao Zhen” (鬅毛针), a specialized stitch that layers threads to create a fluffy, dimensional fur effect. Every strand is placed to convey strength and spirit.

Goldfish – A sign of abundance and luck.

Through “Xu Shi Zhen” (虚实针) — a mix of solid and fading stitches — embroiderers capture the translucent flow of fins and tails, mimicking the gentle movement of fish in water.

“Ride the Clouds Embroidery”

The pattern is from the No. 1 Han Tomb of Mawangdui in Changsha, more than 2,000 years ago.
Culturally, the cloud motif signifies exaltation and wishful thinking. This pattern reflects the people's yearning and pursuit of a better life at that time.

“Lotus and Crane”

In 1915, the Panama Pacific Universal Exposition was held in San Francisco.
The traditional art embroidery “Lotus and Crane Picture” selected by China, featuring the lotus flower (symbolizing purity) and the crane (symbolizing longevity), won the Gold Medal for its oriental aesthetics.
